Social Studies
Kindergarten social studies is integrated throughout the school day. The social studies curriculum encompasses three units. We also use Star of the Week as a tie in to our social studies curriculum.
- Unit 1- About School
- Classroom routines promote learning
- Following rules and accepting responsibilities help to maintain order and protect students.
- Rules may change depending on location.
- Members of the school community are responsible for the school environment.
- A map is a tool, and school maps can be used to find different locations in the school.
- Different rooms in the building serve different functions.
- School personnel have different jobs.
- Unit 2- About Me
- People have attributes that make them individuals.
- People have basic needs and some people have special needs.
- People can change in many ways including learning and growing.
- As people age their responsibilities change as well as the way they look.
- Weather changes with the coming of each season.
- Weather and seasonal changes affect people's choice of what clothing to wear.
- Unit 3- About Families
- Families have different cultures.
- Families have rules.
- Family members can have different jobs in the community.
- Tools and machines can help to do work.
- Responsibilities are shared in the family.
- Family groups change over time.
- Family members can work together to prevent waste and conserve energy in the home.
